It was discovered that when using JAWS 10 and 11 with Firefox 3, most new HTML 5 elements work fine but the header. Any text inside a header element is ignored by JAWS, which is pretty weird.

@Rani Yes this is a problem that I reported to Freedom Scientific and which they must fix on their end. That's why I closed your Firefox bug on this subject as "invalid", because there is nothing we can do about it, other screen readers work fine with our alerts.

Hi Marco,
Did you get an answer to the firefox/jaws alerts issues? I can't read them as well.
Thanks

Hi Marco,

First off, great blog.

I wanted to comment on something that I have noticed with Firefox and JAWS for some time now and wanted to check if this is just me or if you and others have noticed the same:

JAWS does not read the contents of JavaScript alerts in Firefox.

I have noticed this with JAWS 7 through 10 and Firefox 2 and 3.

Is this a known issue? Maybe I have an add-on that is causing a conflict?

Cheers,
ken

Wow. For a JAWS 10 release, there's like nothing in it. It should be JAWS 9 update or JAWS 9.1 and free, no SMA's used. And also, seems like FS is really grabbing at straws with this one. And how come you can select text with formatting in IE8 and not in Firefox2/3? Because FS is Microsoft's lap dog. I'm not getting JAWS 10. Waste of money and time!!! Let's get some stability for a change, Firefox 3 support is worse than JFW7 with FF2.
